What level?
We offer lessons to all ages and abilities. We will give each student an initial assessment when they start learning with us. Below you can see what level you think you or your child is at and can see what is covered at each level.

Beginner
If you are new to learning a musical instrument then this is the place to start.
Some areas we will cover are:

How to read music on the stave
-
The most common types of beats
-
Common time signatures and key signatures.

Putting together and caring for your instrument
-
How to make a sound on your instrument
-
Basic notes on your instrument
-
Playing basic tunes
NB- If you are interested in taking grades on your instruments, beginner level is grades 1 - 2
Intermediate
You may have learnt an instrument in the past or have built up your knowledge of the above, therefore you are at intermediate level on your instrument.
Some areas we will cover are:

Recognising musical notation straight away

Musical notation above and below the stave

More complex beats
-
More complex time signatures and key signatures
-
Developing a good tone on your instrument
-
Increase your use of articulation and dynamics
-
Better use of breathing and phrasing

Performance techniques
NB- If you are interested in taking grades on your instruments, intermediate level is grades 3 - 6
Advanced
If you can read music, can play most of your scales, know most of the notes on your instrument, and want to take your playing to a professional level, then you are at an advanced level.
Some areas we will cover are:

Intonation

Breathing
-
Tone
-
All articulation and dynamics
-
All scales, arpeggios, dominant 7ths etc

Performance techniques
NB- If you are interested in taking grades on your instruments, advanced level is 7 - diploma
