Whole Class Instrumental Lessons


Giving ALL students the opportunity to make music is extremely beneficial to their physchological and social development. 


Group instrumental lessons can include:


  • Learning how to play an instrument

  • Music reading

  • Performing

  • Aural training

  • Theory training 

  • Composing

  • Music history


Lessons will be personalised to suit the school and students' needs. The appropriate key stage and level of the students music ability will be used. Some instruments can be provided for classes of students, such as recorders.

First Access – FREE introduction to instrumental learning


First Access is one of the key initiatives of the government’s National Plan for Music Education.  The aim of the First Access is to introduce students at Key Stages 1 – 3 to learning an instrument through weekly whole class instrumental lessons.

You can apply to Cornwall Music Education Hub for a grant that offer a FREE one term (12 week) programme which consists of a grant to fund:


  • An initial Planning session with the deliverer and classroom teacher (and ideally school senior manager) to review music provision in the school and plan how First Access will be embedded

  • 10 x 45 minute whole class instrumental lessons on a weekly basis on the same instrument

  • A final Review meeting to discuss future development of musical learning and next steps.
